Wife of the President Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari reiterates commitment to support girl child and adolescent in the pursuit of education

The wife of the President Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari   has reiterated her commitment to support the girl child and adolescent in the pursuit of education  in the country. She said educating a girl means empowering her and giving her a means of livelihood translating to supporting a strong family figure.

She made the assertion at an occasion to commemorate the international day of the girl child on 11\10\15 where she was represented by the wife of the Senate President Mrs Toyin Saraki .

Mrs Buhari assured the girls of he and their chances of being married off early will be reduced, she urged them to stand firm and acquire education. She noted that from the beginning of 2010 when child rights act was enacted,”there was a drastic chance in favour of our girls”. Among her other key intervention includes the out of school children, advocacy for young and adolescent girls to have equal opportunities with their male counterparts.
The girls were drawn from different schools accross the country including Kebbi , Niger , zamfara , bauchi ,katsina and the federal capital territory .They were given the opportunity to ask questions on key areas where most of them centered on the rate of support Mrs Buhari plan to offer to the Girl child, their prospects and efforts towards making life more bearable for younger Nigerians to the national project.

The wife of the senate president provided answers and assured them of the necessary steps being taken by Her  excellency to tackle the issues ,among which is to advocate minimum  of 12  years in school before marriage and also eliminate chill early marriage .

The permanent secretary, federal ministry of education Hajiya Hinadtu Mohammed stated that the federal government  has taken appropriate measures  to support and encourage the girl child education so that they will have a better life to contribute to national development in different areas of endeavour.
UNICEF representative also assured their support in all aspects of the girl child education.
