Implementation strategy

Advocacy at all levels of government would constitute the core of TOWP’s engagement in Nigeria, regionally and globally. The main objective is to support the efforts of the Nigerian Government through the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) to achieve its RMNCH targets.

The TOWP will leverage existing advocacy platforms such as the Wives of State Governors, Legislators, Local Governments, Uniformed services, women groups and development partners for collaborative work and harnessing synergies towards ensuring greater involvement of the citizenry especially women in in demanding and utilizing life-saving RMNCAH services. TOWP is well-positioned to provide a convening role to optimize the comparative advantages of these groups for the benefit of furthering the RMNCH agenda.

Given that all parts of Nigeria are affected by the poor maternal, new born and child health outcomes albeit to varying degrees, it is envisaged that the efforts of the wife of the president would be required across the entire country regardless of geopolitical considerations. However, prioritization will be made to ensure highest possible impact with due consideration of the huge disparities that exist in key maternal and child health indices as well as access to services by vulnerable populations across the country; and especially between urban and rural areas. Deliberate efforts will therefore be made to focus on and prioritise interventions in areas with the largest burden, where the initiative is expected to harvest “quick wins” through addressing the “low-hanging fruits”.
